10 steam engines fired up in Oakland Hills
Author: dmaffei

This past weekend was the Redwood Valley RR's
50th aniversary at Tilden Park in the Oakland hills. This is a 15 inch gauge (narrow gauge)
live steam railroad. They invited other RRs to
run this past weekend and ended up with 10 steam
engines! Great show of steam on a small scale...
My personal Favorite was a replica of the
North Pacific Coast "Sonoma".
They ran 3 double headed passenger trains and
two work trains on Sunday. A shay was working the yard.
Lotsa Fun!!!

Couldn't you have told us about this *before* the event?

Any idea if the visiting engines are still on the premises? I'm planning to visit the railway later this week.

Ted in Sac

P.S., is there any good source/clearinghouse to get information about rail events in Northern California?

Dave would it be possible to post a photo of you straddling a cattle car as you rode through the Redwoods of Tildon Park?

Hoping to see more photos...

Especially some of those taken from the roof of the Army Camp depot when all the steam locomotives were lined up.

Most impressive...

Special Note:--
The Redwood Valley Railway in Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley, CA is right next door to the huge steam layout of the "Golden Gate Live Steamers", who were hosting their Spring Meet that same weekend, June 1st and 2nd....
Between RVR and GGLS, one can see and enjoy Live STEAM in either 2 1/2", 3 1/2", 4 3/4", 7 1/2" or
15" gauge trains and locomotives. Pretty good assortment, huh ??
RVR and GGLS are located at the corner of 'Lomas Cantadas & Grizzly Peak Blvd' in Berkeley, CA.
Take "Fish Ranch Road" from Highway 24 on East side of Caldecott Tunnel. Very easy to find.
Railroad layouts are right next door to the Tilden Park Corporation Yard. The Eastbay Regional Park District refers to the railroads as their: "Miniature Railroad Development Complex" !!
Impressive, huh??
Cheers.
