A good check is entering the NOAA Weather Radio Channel, if you can hear one of them, you know your radio is working. Anytime you change an antenna or maybe a new location try the Wx channel and compare to the reception before. That's a good way to check for a loose antenna, or weak batteries or just a problem radio. All the RR frequencies are divisible by '15', also by '3'. Doing the math makes certain that the Frequency is real. There are AAR tables of RR channels and actual Frequencies on the Internet.
