Western Railroad Discussion > Patience grasshopper.....you will be rewarded.Date: 10/24/07 11:41 Patience grasshopper.....you will be rewarded. Author: JWR After spending the night deciding whether to drive down to Green River from Thermopolis to intercept the UP 1989(a 500 mile rounder), I decided to stay put. The decision paid off as the rail train that had tied down north of Thermopolis departed down into the WRC about as early as a photographer could ask for at this time of year. I had wanted this shot of tunnel 2 1/2 the whole week I spent driving up and down the canyon. Yesterday, I shot it with a 70-200 and the results were decent. Today I had other ideas and called upon "the isolator"(said in an Arnie voice)to bring the portal to me.....
Enjoy! Jeff Robertson Date: 10/24/07 11:50 Re: Patience grasshopper.....you will be rewarded. Author: kodachrome9319 JWR Wrote:

What I tried to say was that I shot the portal with the 70-200 yesterday and today I shot it with my big glass(300-800) set at 550mm to get this shot across the canyon. Author: ted1897 Hi JR, it was nineteen years ago when I first met you and Ted at the Kamloops railroad station on a cool, foggy, October morning. We were waiting for our excursion train to depart for Jasper. You drove up, struck up a conversation, and told us that both steam locomotives were on the ground in the CN yard. Then you offered to drive us there to see them being re-railed. If I remember correctly, your dad was running the CN's big hook that day. You were just a teenager, but already an accomplished rail photographer. I always enjoy your excellent photos, Jeff. They remind me of all the fun times we had railfanning together those many years ago.

Yes, good choice here. I like the details of the portal and can see several steps in the history of the construction. Timbers, stones and finally the steel gussets. The whiteface profile of the loco sets off well against the darkness of the bore nicely. Date: 10/24/07 16:08 Re: Patience grasshopper.....you will be rewarded. Author: RustyRayls That is one heck of a lense to get that at 550mm. Nice work! You have a winner there.
