OPR 1810 and slug 1010 moving to new home in Kansas

Oregon Pacific has sold its GP7u 1810 and slug 1010 to a grain elevator located on the Cimarron Valley shortline at Hugoton, Kansas.

The SFGX 1810 is former Alaska RR 1810 and was used in the movie “Under Siege II; Dark Territory” starring Steven Segal. It was previously painted in the OPR red/white colors and carried the name “Eileen Samuels” named after OPR owner Dick Samuels 88-year old mother.

The SFGX 1010 is the former SP 1010 yard slug; the only known survivor of the set of four built by GE in 1980 from a retired L&N SW-7.

Both units were painted by the OPR crew and equipped with slug controls and the ZTR “BOA” adhesion control system.

Both units are currently en-route on the BNSF via Lincoln, Nebraska scheduled to interchange to the CVR at Dodge City around March 28th; from there they will go to the CVR shops at Satanta, KS to have the alignment control couplers removed and the standard ones reinstalled. Once in service the set will handle unit grain trains at the facility which is a subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland Grain.

SUNDAY PM:

Latest trip plan shows them in Lincoln, NE until Tuesday morning (3/25) when they are scheduled to leave for Kansas City on the H PASKCK9 21 into KC. They are then scheduled out of KC on the H KCKDEN4 26 arriving in Dodge City the 27th and i/c to the Cimarron Valley on the 28th.

I used to work on the 1810 when it was at El Mirage, AZ. Wondered what happened to it.

The 1011 is reported to be USS 1251 in Granite City, IL. As of 9/19/07, the 1012 was reported to still be at NRE, Mt. Vernon, IL. Of course, we know what happened to the 1013! Did you have to re-ballast the 1010?

This is one of those units that shows up where ever I go.
First is not by me, but Phil Faudi in Anchorage 11-71 as the 1821

next I shot in Anchorage in '79 as 1810

got it as Nevada Industrial , but can't find the shot at present, but nice paint

next at OP 1821, sharp

and as SFGX 1810, fresh but not it's best scheme.

Also shot it in Cal on the Mc Cloud.

Here's some recent photos of the 1810 during its last days on the OPR. These were taken by Dick Samuels and they were kind enough to send me these for my railfan site. The first three are at the OPR shops.

Here's some more...these were also taken by from Dick Samuels.

The two night shots of the 1810/1010 was taken to East Portland before being taken by the UP to the Brooklyn Yard.

The daytime shot was taken of the 1810/1010 at Brooklyn Yard.

I tried to talk ADM into a more "lively" paint scheme; they gave us a little leeway as long as it was gray, blue and black with yellow handrails....corporate colors....the blue "swoop" down to line up with the slug was about as "lively" as we could get.

To answer a previous post, yes, they are moving on the BNSF as SFGX 1810 and SFGX 1010. The cut levers between them were removed and the couplers chained so they should still be together. My understanding is they are right behind the power moving on a Laurel-Kansas City manifest. They then move on a Kansas City-Ft. Dodge local.

I fly into Denver Thursday to intercept them at Dodge.

I'll get the trip plan printout at the office today and post the exact train ID's tonite. Units are currently in Lincoln, NE; due out tomorrow am
