Western Railroad Discussion > SSW 9703.........Date: 04/28/08 21:44 SSW 9703......... Author: xtra1188w SSW GP60 9703 is still unpatched. Here it is at work a few days before ssw found it at rest in Corsicana yesterday, sunday 4/27/2008/.
A little while before the 9703 came to Tyler, the UP southbound in the third image passed by in review. I wasn't going to post this image since UP trains passing thru Tyler all pretty well look the same, but pixels are free, and this will give me a 3rd picture to round out this thread. Date: 04/29/08 05:46 Re: SSW 9703......... Author: zwsplac Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting those shots. SSW 9703 is a very special engine to me. When I was 10 years old in June of 95' I was given a cab ride on a SP stack train from Alta Vista to Volland, KS and SSW 9703 was the leader, followed by SP 9720 and a pair of CSX SD40-2s, numbers unknown. The engineer called me over to his seat, told me how to release the brakes and get the train started. Long story short, within a couple of miles I was running the show till he told me how to get the train stopped for the red signal at Volland. I was certainly one of the youngest hoggers in history, and the engineer was impressed by how fast I picked things up. The sad part of the story was that I had broken my camera earlier that day, so no pictures. It may have picked up ditch lights and lost the beacon, but SSW 9703 is still a fine sight to my eyes.
