Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retiredDate: 06/19/08 15:30 BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retired Author: SD452XR The last operational SDP40 on the BNSF roster is to be retired. Will be headed to Topeka to be cannibalized and retired. Sad to see it go. Wish someone could save it and give it a good home. Would love to see it back in the GN Big Sky Blue.

Additional question: is this the last passenger locomotive on the active BNSF roster? Z Date: 06/19/08 16:48 Re: BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retired Author: Chief409 I hate to ask a ladies age, but how old is she?
Jeff Date: 06/19/08 17:02 Re: BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retired Author: TCnR The SDP40's were delivered in Orange and green paint for the Empire Builder trains of the Great Northern. Also wore blue, but they ran with F-units as well as the SDP45's.
Maybe something for the smaller passenger operations to try to pick up, they have that extra section in the back for a steam generator or maybe a tall skinny HEP set up. were part of about 110 units initially leased to CSX, you know the silver bodies green nose and other variations. Date: 06/19/08 17:34 Re: XGN 323 SDP40 XBNSF 6325 xBN 6397/1976/9853 Author: ssloansjca It was in the bay area recently too. I am sorry I missed it.

It no longer has the grill at the rear of the long hood for a boiler like the BNSF one does. Unless there is a former GN GP9 hidden somewhere, I believe this would be the last passenger unit on the BNSF. Date: 06/19/08 19:51 Re: BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retired Author: bnsfsd70 Don't forget the handful of KCS/TFM/KCSM/whatever they are SDP40's that are still on the roster. I've caught two of them in Kansas City. In addition, the BNSF 6326 is indeed in the deadline at Topeka.

It's ex-ATSF torpedo-boat GP7 1328, originally 2651, equipped with a steam generator when new. Date: 06/19/08 20:56 Re: BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retired Author: NdeM About the Mexican units;
NdeM and the Great Northern were the only railroads to purchase SDP40's. Many of the Mexican units remain active in Mexico. I can't find an exact disposition of all the units (each source is different), but both Ferromex and TFM received the SDP40's after the 1997 privatization. Many are still in service for both Ferromex and TFM (now KCS de Mexico). I have seen FXE and TFM SDP40's in the US. Nate Date: 06/19/08 21:15 Re: BNSF 6327 SDP40 to be retired Author: nikon1 I say the BNSF should rebuild the 3626 and 3627 and retain for their business fleet.
