Western Railroad Discussion > Need some info....

On the 4th of July my wife and I went up to Sutter Mill and Jackson CA. On the way up there I saw a branch line that crossed the hiway several times. Was this branch the old Kentucky House Branch out of Lodi?

That territory strongly looks like the Amador Foothills (nee Amador Central), and a quick map check for the locations you cite reinforces my belief that the Amador is what you saw....

Yep...that is the AFR. I am a member of the group who leases the railroad for Sierra Pacific. We run speeder trips on the line several times a year.

That is the ex Amador Central, also known as the ex Amador Foothills Railway. It is now under a multi year lease to the Recreational Railroad Coalition in Ione Ca. The RRC as it is known, meets every third Saturday of the month, year round in Ione to maintain and ride the old railroad. The current project is the reconstruction of the wye in Ione. The next work/meet day is the 19th. Come join us.

That's an ex-WP caboose but I can't place it. Is this the one in Sierra Springs east of Placerville? If not, which town were the caboose shots taken in? Thanks!

I believe this cab was on hiway 4 between Stockton and Hiway 88, where you turn off for Jackson and Sutter Mill.
