Units Involved in the Propane Gas Wreck?
Author: SD70M

Apologies if someone has already posted. I could see from earlier photos that the leader was the 9402, but as yet couldnt see if anyone had posted the identity of the second unit, which looked like an SD70M. I would imagine there is a fair chance that this unit will be retired as well as the 9402. Thanks

Go here and see how you read it:

About 40 seconds in, there is a shot of the cab and number of the trailing unit. Though badly charred, it appears to me to be SD70 3825...

Correct, the second unit is the 3825. I could not make out the lead number however. Another tragic event in old Oklahoma.

I'm no expert on rebuilds, but I have seen much worse damaged units rebuilt after collisions. However, in this day and age we do tend to throw things away rather than fix them.

My guess is that if there's frame damage, it'll be scrapped. But if it's mostly external fire damage, with the frame and prime mover intact, it'll be restored. (My non-expert opinion)

With the trucking outfit (either private or commercial) they had to operate with insurance, and I would think the liability to make the railroad "whole" as they say in the insurance trade is step 1 !
