The restoration of the El Garces Hotel in Needles, CA is under the capable direction and supervision of Allan Affeldt, who was also responsible for the awesome restoration and renovation of the LaPosada Hotel in Winslow, AZ. If it turns out as well as La Posada, it will be a jewel. I have stayed at La Posada twice and it is a wonderful experience. The Turquoise Room restaurant (serving all meals) is first-rate.....and BNSF trains (mostly stack) are going by every five minutes.

La Posada is highly recommended, also, for "roads scholars" Winslow is part of Route 66, and for music fans in general (and Eagles fans in particular), there's a statue of a man with a guitar "...Standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona...." and a nearby store with plenty of Route 66 merchandise.

I hope he's doing it as a labor of love because unless he gets a lot of Route 66 nuts, nobody is going to want to stay in Needles. At least in Laughlin just up the road and even in beautiful downtown Kingman or Oatman there are things to do.

I believe the El Garces restoration is being funded by the city of Needles as part of an anniversary celebration. I agree with you, however, that Needles is "far from paradise."

Needles isn't a vacation destination, but I'd certainly be willing to stay in a place like Winslow's La Posada in Needles.

I think its the last Harvey House until Barstow, so marketing it with a US 66 theme could make a lot of sense. Gonna be tough marketing it in August with the temperature about 110 in the afternoon. Hope they have a really big, and really cold, pool.

Reviving an old, old thread. Seems like the El Garces hotel renovation is still just a dream. Haven't been through Needles in a long while (I live in NYC), so I've been looking online for some info about the renovations. The main website for the hotel is down and/or gone, and all I have been able to discover are some pics from last May:

As of that date, it was still just a shell. Anyone have any further news?

Exactly my point above - the link is dead (original post with link was posted almost 5 years ago), and I can't seem to find any updated information.
