BNSF Marceline Sub disruption?
Author: crs1026

The BNSF main line thru Fort Madison IA has been dead since early this morning....not one train in either direction.

Amtrak's web site declines to give an ETA for the Super Chief, thanks to "Service Disruption".

Does anyone know if something has happened down the line?

"G LOWELP9 22 derailed blocking both main lines at 6:30 a.m. CT on the Chicago Division, Marceline Subdivision. The derailment location is between Baring, Missouri and Hurdland, Missouri, approximately 60 miles west of Ft Madison, Iowa. "

Eastbounds starting to stack up on the Transcon west of KC. BNSF 4665 East looks to be a 10,000-foot stacker with 3+2 power, is stopped at an intermediate on Main 2 between Gardner and Olathe (Kansas) with the back of its train over a grade crossing. Been there for at least 1/2 hour as of 12:45 CDT. BNSF 5014 East with a 7,000-foot stacker, also 3+2, is right behind him. Now a westbound passing through Olathe (BNSF 6751 West) is talking to Ft. Worth Mechanical about smoking axles on their second unit, and Mechanical is telling them to set it out. This will tie up Main 1 between Olathe and Gardner for awhile. Gonna be a mess on the Transcon around KC for awhile, I reckon.

OK, now the 6751 is stopped in west Olathe on Main 1 with the back 500 feet (per a signal maintainer) across a grade crossing while they cut out their second unit. 4665 East just got told to proceed on signal indication... crew asked if they're going be able to get through Argentine, DS says, "I don't know what I'm going to do with you, yet."

EDINA, MO (AP) -- About two dozen rail cars hauling corn have derailed in northeast Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happened about 7:20 a.m. Friday north of Edina.

Steve Forsberg, spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, says there may be as many as three dozen cars involved and that both main tracks are blocked. He says the train was headed west out of Illinois.

Sgt. Brent Bernhard of the patrol says no injuries were reported, but that a county road in the area is closed for about a 10-mile stretch.

It's unclear why the rail cars derailed. Crews from BNSF are en route to investigate and assist with the cleanup.

6751 West back on the move. Crew tells the DS they are down to .64 HPT and will be struggling. DS refers to them as Local 71, which I think is the "Emporia Local." I went out to watch them go by... I actually snickered as they went by with their lone SD40-2 in run 8 pulling about 5,000 feet of ag cars at about 25 mph. Engineer was leaning forward with his jaw stuck out like he was helping pull the train.

That's hilarious.

Z-WSPSBD1-24A is by Saluda, IL 1505h which implies it's on the BN out of Galesburg via Quincy to Kansas City. Probably other detours as well.

Only three trains tied up at Fort Madison so far:
Q-CHILAC6-24A 695(WAR)-966(H1)-651(WAR)-6755(Bluebonnet)
V-MCIABQ8-23A 5511-7037(BN)-6391(BN)-8029(H1)
Q-CHISBD6-24A 8209(WAR)-5011-7476

Just got back from the area of the derailment (3:30 pm). Can't get near the site without getting in the way so can only report on what you can see from a distance. Route P, goes northwest out of Edina, Missouri, is closed with trucks, cars, etc. parked about a quarter of a mile back from the rr bridge and on the west side of the rr tracks a half dozen trucks parked on the road. Quite a bit of radio chatter directing equipment to the site. It appears the contractors are working on 160.455. I heard some traffic near the site on that freq. The road channel 160.560 is busy!

Someone went east to Medill about an hour ago with 47 cars of the grain train. Also saw a railroad police vehicle in the area.

One track should be open 0900-25 and the other 1400-25. Another stack train just arrived at 2015h with 6344-6511 both blue and yellow, apparently a QSTPFTW.
