Rail Grinder through Tehachapi at night

Imagine our surprize (and unfettered glee) at seeing this rail grinder moving through Cable. Awesome to see it at night. It looked like Christmas had arrived on rails.

It seemes to me with all the brush fires in Southern California as of late.The last thing you would want is the spark from a rail grinder to set one off.I would hope there is a lot of fire equiptment close by.

They carry a large supply of water and I have seen them spraying the line as they passed at the end of the grinder. Still a risky business during fire season.
