Photo contest subject lines question????
Author: RobJ

I included photo information in my subject line for the contest. I feel this a courtesy to members.
I am curious why so many posters think because it is for the contest there is no need
to give a clue as to what it is a photo of or where.

Not everyone can look at every post and a subject line could help sell your photo to viewers or at least help everyone else in choosing what to view.????

I agree Bob . . as we navigate through posts when time is limited,
we can easily miss something significant, worthy of a look. If you're
a 'marketing major' . . you understand that: you have to 'sell' it,
as you've said. I've been surprised by the quality photos of some of
the newer, somewhat unknown members here. Great work guys ! 'Dogh

Totally agree.

I think this is valid for ALL posts, not just contest entries. Make your subject lines a little more descriptive and more people who are interested will read them, while others who don't care won't be annoyed by them.

I would like to see a separate category for just the contest pictures. All the forums are cluttered up by all the contest entries and I don't have the time to sort through it all as I'm sure others don't either. Just my $.02 worth.-BMT

What I've been doing is clicking the "Static Photography" link under "Media Sharing" on the left side of the page and perusing the thumbnails of the day's images, clicking on the ones that interest me. I can sympathize with the subject line complaint, but on the other hand, we only have 55 characters to describe five images of potentially completely different subjects on different railroads.

The subject IS the contest. For most of us the only thing that all 5 images have in common is that they are being submitted for the contest. The contest only runs one week. You guys need to quit bitchin so much. We all have different primary interest in a common hobby. LIGHTEN UP!!

This response makes a pretty good case for setting up a separate CONTEST ENTRIES forum.

I don't think that it does. Most of the enties have "contest" in the subject line. This makes it very easy to just breeze on by them without clicking on them if you're not interested in the contest. I would imagine that setting up a separate catagory, for just one week, for the contest would be somewhat of a hassle for Todd and the guys @ TO.com.

Heck, lately I've been specifically looking for the contest entry posts. Labeling them as such helped that along nicely.

Though I have to agree with Evan, looking at the thumbnails on the "static photography" link has been a good way to go about it too. Most of the time you can tell if an image is going to be a real looker or not just from the thumbnail (though I have missed a couple that were great in a subtle way by doing that too).
