Hudson Bay HBR 4200 in it's native element: snow!
Author: NH2006

Thought about posting this on the Canadian Forum, but this is here in Fort Collins. HBR 4200 parked on the Great Western "Main Line*" to Windsor. Also, LDI02....

About 8 inches of snow up here! It's about time to feel like Christmas!

Hi all,

I did not recognize the type of loco that this was. I did a google search for Hudson Bay Rail and found this link:

http://www.omnitrax.com/rail_hbry.aspx

Both Great Western and Hudson Bay Rail are owned by OmniTrax. Makes more sense now why it was there. However, what is it? EMD for sure. My 2009 Locomotive Rosters by James W Kerr only shows 8 loco's for HBR - all of them GP40-2. None with this number. Is that what this is in the wide nose version?

BTW, nice pix.

I *think* it's a GP40-2LW, Norm says it's a GP40-2L. I don't know the difference...

L is a standard cab, LW is a wide cab.
All I got from the day was the DenLau leaving Loveland. Not as nice as the first snow last year, but I'll take it.

The correct designation is GP40-2 or GP40-2L, depending on when built. There was an excellent article on this unique locomotive model several years ago in Diesel Era magazine and the model designation was one of the issues addressed. Early production units were classed GP40-2 by the builder and later units were classed GP40-2L. The "GP40-2LW" or "GP40-2W" designations were adopted by railfans and never used by the railroad or builder.

This is an Ex CP, CN or from one of the Canadian Railroads. You could post this in the Candian Page. And see is anyone can find the history of this Locomotive

We also think it's ex CN 9414 or CN 9459 (Thanks to Norm Metcalf)
