Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF 5600 AC4400CWs to be LUGODate: 03/27/09 00:37 BNSF 5600 AC4400CWs to be LUGO Author: foamer BNSF has special instructions on the majority of the AC4400CWs to lay up at next available location. From 5603-5653 almost all have the remark and from 5654-5717 almost half have the instruction.
What is interesting is that the 5600-5602 do not have this instruction even though they are much older than the rest. The warranty protection units in the middle of the Gevo series (5838-5840) do not have it either. 5840 does have a note saying it is to go to Ceeco for paint! I would think that these units would just be put into the general population for awhile while it is slow, instead of sidelined. ... Foamer Date: 03/27/09 14:30 Re: BNSF 5600 AC4400CWs to be LUGO Author: DL701 I have seen CSX do something similar. I wonder if they have some kind of financial arrangement where they don't have to make payments if they are shut down?

Why run the warranties out of new units when you can run older power that is no longer under warranty.
