Western Railroad Discussion > Midwest Vacation 09' Vol 6Date: 04/30/09 21:51 Midwest Vacation 09' Vol 6 Author: UP9000 On April 11, we made our way from La Crosse to Janesville. We spent the morning around the old Milwaukee Road depot in La Crosse, and then headed east. We stopped in Thoma for lunch, and went to an Amish store to get some cashew brittle. We checked out the depot, and just as we were getting out of the car, the gates went down and here came a wb train. We continued on to Portage, and then followed the branch line south looking for the G64 Job, also known as the M&P Turn. With a blip on our scanner from the fred frequency, we started checking down each road we came to. South of Arlington, we finally saw a slow moving NB freight, and we hurried to get into position for a shot. We were able to get 5 shots between there and Portage, as well as a mainline train near the junction of the branch in Portage. We then headed on south for a good nights rest in Janesville.

There were a couple of really good catches in this sequence. First, the MRL leader with what appears to be two of the wide-nose Soo SD60M's trailing on a hopper train. The second, of course, is the local, with a rebuilt GP40X trailing. I'd say you had excellent luck for this day. Looking forward to the rest of the trip. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA |
