Western Railroad Discussion > Nice picture from Down UnderDate: 06/05/09 00:59 Nice picture from Down Under Author: lwilton I'm sure this should be in the International Zone, but it deserves a bit wider viewing. This picture is a stock photo adorning an article on ABC News (Austrialian Broadcasting Company, that is) on a Rio Tinto business deal that fell thru, so the location isn't obvious. The photo credits they give are: (AAP: Rio Tinto/Christian Sprogoe, file photo)

Date: 06/05/09 11:59 Re: Nice picture from Down Under Author: mrslides Here's a shot of a former SP SD40 being unloaded in Port Hedland, Western Australia. These units were refurbished at the GE facility in San Luis Potosi, SLP, Mexico for BHP-Billeton. You can see more photos of these units being unloaded by going to my web site and clicking on the Australian Flag and then go to page 4.

When a train runs over them, they turn up (literally) and a brake hose somewhere will be broken. While not fail proof, the plows help to keep this from happening. The Mine loadout shown is likely the Yandicoogina or West Angeles mine. It is a sad comment on the lack of diversity and interest that many Americans show in something that isn't "American" that this photo "has to be added to the American thread so someone will see it" ... sad! I asked for anyone to watch out for our latest BHP Billiton SD70ACe's (13 units) and there was a posting of the photos being loaded in the Port of Toronto. These were loaded 29th of November 2008 so you may be able to search the threads to see the photo - use my name and I am sure you will find the posting. BTW, the final 9 units of our order will be arriving in Port Hedland, Western Australia, in late June or early July. I wonder if anyone has photographed them being loaded? These may be the last GM's as the word is that BHP-Billiton may be looking at GE again for future orders. Rick |
