Extreme Makeovers
Author: MacBeau

Before the removal of Tunnel 2, this view of an eastbound snaking upgrade through Alray last November would have been impossible. Of all the changes wrought by the triple tracking of Cajon, the daylighting of the two tunnels remains (IMHO) the most stunning alteration. Ironically, the same project which made this camera angle possible removed the source of the name Alray (a stub track), but like Gish, it will undoubtedly endure as it identifies a specific location on the pass.
Be of good cheer,

Nice shot, Mac. I said earlier that while we could mourn
the loss of the Alray Tunnells, there would be new spots
opening up. Here is the first proof of that.
