It seems I can't locate any good photos of RI SD40-2's anywhere. Someone had to photograph them. Anyone have any to post, or know of a website with them?

After shutdown the units went to the IC as 6040-6049. After I believe a fifteen year stint on IC were then put into the EMD lease fleet after installation of Dynamic brakes. Don't know what there numbers are now. Dan

When these units were new, did the trucks have a reddish tint to them? It looked to me as though they were not quite aluminum or silver, but more a VERY light metallic pink. Can anyone help?

No, it was more like they painted the trucks black, then left overspray on them when they painted the the rest. Does anyone know the truth about the color of the trucks?

Here is a picture of No. 4792 at El Reno Ok in November 1974.

Trucks were dark grey from factory.

One of them is now in Ohio working for the Ohio Central System. Here is the info on it:

4023 (ex-#6044 w/ EMDX reporting marks)

Unit is reportedly in full OC paint with EMDX reporting marks. I'm hoping to get over that way in the spring and get some shots of it.

29 Years ago.

Second District out - SD40-2s are My Favorite Engines.
