Western Railroad Discussion > Past and Present - La Crosse WIDate: 10/18/09 14:07 Past and Present - La Crosse WI Author: rrartist I can remember as I'm sure a few of you can as well, when an engine number was announced over the scanner or seen on a lineup, it got me all excited! Case in point as I grew up in La Crosse WI and the Burlington Route gave way to the Burlington Northern, I began to memorize engine numbers. Certain units I would see again and again like the BN SD9 #6191 in 1985 sitting in the BN North La Crosse yard. As I grew older and these became more and more scarce. I still got excited to heard of or even see a #6100 roll by. Today's U-SEMBIR was running as the BNSF #6111, not quite an SD9, more like a ES44AC, one of many the BNSF has in its fleet. I must admit my ears still perk up a tad when hear a number from old, but you know, it will never be the same.
