Western Railroad Discussion > AZER "Black Widow" E unit spottedDate: 02/01/10 23:19 AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: NDHolmes My dad's not a hard-core railfan, but when he went by NRE in Silvis, IL, today, he knew to get a few shots of this thing... Given that NRE Silvis had a number of ex-Metra (nee CNW) E8As, my guess is that this is one of them. Anyway, I give you AZER 6070 in SP-like "black widow" paint. (Dan Holmes photo...)

Now that's a TRUE Heritage paint scheme on a real heritage locomotive we can all love - even if not originally Espee under the skin. Interesting SP fantasy choice on the number too. Seems like #6055 would be a logical number choice as SP's last E-unit (an E-9) was the SP6054. In fact, SP actually owned only one E-8.
Too bad it wasn't in Bloody Nose paint though - there were only two somewhat rare Black Widow painted SP E-units, the SP6048 and 6050: http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/e-unit_photos/6050_sp-e9-cliff_west.jpg And the fake painted-on nose number boards are actually a nice frugal touch! Date: 02/01/10 23:35 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: RyanWilkerson That looks great! Glad they could keep the red frame stripe instead of white or yellow
Ryan Wilkerson Fair Oaks, CA Date: 02/02/10 00:00 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: Got_Steam I'd like to go see this operation. What kind of schedule do the run? Thanks!

Anyone know the latest on the BL-2's? Are they on the property yet? Date: 02/02/10 03:01 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: gobbl3gook Whoa! Black. And Shiny!
Ted in OR Date: 02/02/10 05:16 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: trainboy03 I had no idea that thing was there, will be looking out for it on my next visit to Silvis (very soon aparently). Your dad is lucky there wasn't any cars parked in the IAIS yard tracks in the foreground, there's usually a string of ADM hoppers or tanks blocking the view.

Date: 02/02/10 07:40 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: M-420 They should paint on the port holes too
Date: 02/02/10 10:02 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: winchester They could have decals made to look like real port holes.
Date: 02/02/10 14:40 Re: AZER "Black Widow" E unit spotted Author: FBU32804 Folks, that splendid E-unit is going to AZER's Copper Spike train based out of Globe, AZ. Remember awhile back the rumour about the FP10 that were going there? Well, they are now on SLRG.
The BL2 are still in transit, issues with UP & couplers. Date: 02/02/10 19:18 Future employment? Author: john1082 Just what exactly is this bad boy supposed to fo to earn it's keep?
John Gezelius Tustin, CA Date: 02/03/10 06:06 Re: Future employment? Author: mococomike Just told you above pulling the copper spike pax train.
