Western Railroad Discussion > Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway!Date: 03/18/10 23:26 Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: highgreengraphics Okay, don't get too excited - They are parked next to Utah Railway's enginehouse in Provo, UT, and look to be complete but I do not know if they run or not. Probably from the now-gone steel mill that was close by, Anybody know where they might be bound? Happy railfanning! --- --- - --- JLH
Date: 03/18/10 23:34 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: jimh Looks like letters on the cab are LTEX, thats
Larrys Truck in Ind or Il. They have resold a few locomotives but thay have scrapped hundreds more Jim Date: 03/18/10 23:41 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: NDHolmes Beat up Baldwins with Larrys reporting marks... that's probably not a good sign. My guess is that they'll be reduced to scrap before long.
Date: 03/18/10 23:54 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: highgreengraphics Good point about LTEX, but I wonder if Larkin could use some more parts up in Escanaba on the E&LS...

Date: 03/19/10 06:57 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: bluesman I think these were built after Westinghouse stopped building rotating gear. Baldwin was forced to buy GE electrical gear.

Date: 03/19/10 08:59 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: lizzard_45 These were supossed to go to Larrys, but UP said they were in to bad of shpe to run even DIC on their track. That's why they are still sitting at the Utah engine house. Don't know when, if ever they will move these units.
Paul Liddiard Spanish Fork, UT Date: 03/19/10 11:09 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: highgreengraphics Must be bad wheels making them not transportable by UP? I see the trucks were retrofitted with roller bearings, making them more mobile... --- --- - --- JLH

Only two Baldwins were built with GE gear. They had enough Westinghouse equipment on hand to last almost to the end. The only "GE" Baldwins were NS's last two AS416's. Date: 03/19/10 12:57 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: rehunn The guys from Larry's said the units had air problems and a couple days later
indicated they might have western buyers. Not a whole lot of Baldwin left, I can't say for sure but I think they got EMD generators as well. Date: 03/19/10 20:04 Re: Ex-US Steel Baldwins at Utah Railway! Author: Evan_Werkema bluesman Wrote:
