Western Railroad Discussion > UP 6759 Gets a Nose JobDate: 04/10/10 21:31 UP 6759 Gets a Nose Job Author: GrandeGold I caught UP AC4400CW #6759 shoving on the rear of a GSTRCB-07 grain empty today in Echo Canyon. It appears the cab has been repainted. Actually, it may have been replaced. Note that this unit now has upper mounted cab number boards and it features a modern GPS dome on top. I seriously doubt these items were factory applied back in 1996.
Does anyone know the story behind 6759's nose job? JSB Date: 04/10/10 21:35 Re: UP 6759 Gets a Nose Job Author: bnsftrucker It kinda has me wondering about a U.P. GE that got a replacement cab from a wrecked CN GE here in WA just before CEECo shut down a year ago, I forgot what the number was.
Date: 04/10/10 21:59 Re: UP 6759 Gets a Nose Job Author: CCMF It got smacked on a Red Rock coal train a couple of years ago at least. The cab came from CN Dash 9-44CW 2584 and you can see the nose has a different contour that allowed for the "porkchop" window design it had as a CN unit. While the front windows were modified to the standard GE type, the nose remains with the CN angles.

At least CEECo did a great job putting that CN cab on it before CEECo shut down last year. Date: 04/10/10 22:31 Re: UP 6759 Gets a Nose Job Author: DelMonteX Here are some "before" images to go along with your "after" shot. Nice to see it after it was finished. It somehow got by me at CEECO.

I wonder how much Bondo they went through?

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Todd Montgomery Eugene OR Date: 04/10/10 23:32 Re: UP 6759 Gets a Nose Job Author: NEEBAR Looks like they didn't even repaint the whole unit just the cab and trucks, underframe, the long hood looks like original faded paint.

If they had done that then there would be one loco with nonstandard window parts to stock. Since the UP was paying some pretty massive repair fees it was just easier to change the windows to match the rest of the GE fleet. Thanks to those who have contributed the photos. They tell a nice story. |
