Hi-Iron on the Rock Island
Author: railtime

Following the old Rock rails east one seldom sees much traffic. Kyle runs four times a week twice each way, so to catch anything moving is an event. When going east I get off the Interstate at Seibert and follow Old Hwy 24 in hopes of seeing something. Just east of town I passed this hi-railer clicking along the rails. At a better speed then the trains. As he went past he stopped and said hi, we chatted for a couple of minutes and on down the rails he went.

Most of the line is pretty much the same as it was 100 years ago, lots of the building are gone but a few remain and there are other reminders.

In the burg of Vona there are a few phone/telegraph lies still standing on their poles. Otherwise it is quiet as the covered hoppers sit awaiting loading.

Thanks for looking

One thing is a little different and that's that Kyle is indeed doing a lot of tie and
surfacing work and things actually do look like they run once in a while.

That's a pretty gnarly looking telephone pole.
