Trains on the Blackbutte/Cascade Subdivisions
Author: AlbinaRunThrough

On Thursday July 22, a friend and I headed North out of the Valley and into the mountains. From a positive train line up I received in the morning, we new it was going to be a good day. Our first train we encountered was the Northbound ILCBRR Baretables at South Dunsmuir where it met the QPDRV and ZBRLC. Traveled up to Weed where we saw the CORP Blackbutte Local switching the lumber industries in Weed.

1) The ILCBRR meets the Southbound QPDRV at the Dunsmuir Crossovers.

2) ILCBRR throttles up leaving the Yard.

3) The CORP Blackbutte Local switches team tracks in Weed, CA.

After Weed, we went up to Klamath Falls where it was very busy. Ran into the QPWRV and MRVHK at the KFS Amtrak Depot. Headed to the BNSF Yard where there was also a hum of activity.

4) The MRVHK adds an additional unit from the Yard, while the rear QPWRV DPU's rest in the background.

5) A Northbound BNSF Manifest enters the South BNSF Yard after making its run on the Highline.

6) The BNSF Klamath Falls local departs South out of the Yard for its run to Crescent Mills near Greenville, CA on the Highline.

From the BNSF KFS Yard we headed about a mile North of the UP KFS Yard to a nice creek. A couple Northbound UP's departed before we arrived, but two BNSF Trains came by so that made up for it.Things started to quiet down in Klamath so we headed back into California and caught the South QPWRV making good speed through Dorris, CA.

7) A Southbound BNSF Manifest prepares to enter the UP Klamath Yard Limits as it comes off the UP Cascade Line.

8) After meeting the SB BNSF above, a North BNSF throttles out of Klamath Yard on the UP Cascade Line to Chemult.

9) The monster QPWRV throttles out of Dorris, CA down the Blackbutte Line to Dunsmuir.

We met up with the QPWRV again at Grass Lake, with perfect sun for a Mount Shasta shot. After getting lost for a few minutes, we ended up in Blackbutte where the QPWRV met its counter-part the MRVPW. The MRVPW is preforming switching duties as it drops and pick up cars for the CORP (Central Oregon & Pacific). Mt. Blackbutte is in the distance as UP 5382 gets bathed in the last sunlight of the day. On the way back to Red Bluff, we heard a few more trains in the cover of darkness. Train total today was BNSF: 5, UP: 9, an CORP: 1. One of the busiest days in Northern California in a while.

Thanks for lookin,

AJ
