Western Railroad Discussion > BNSF 1600Date: 12/08/10 14:25 BNSF 1600 Author: FrontRangeTrains Is BNSF 1600 a EMD GP9 or a renumbered SD40-2? I was looking all over and only have found that it's a GP9. Can anyone confirm that its still in service, or its another SD40-2? I heard a track warrant given to BNSF 1600 South a few minutes ago, so I don't know what unit it is.

Roger Beckett Date: 12/08/10 14:41 Re: BNSF 1600 Author: FrontRangeTrains Thanks, so I'm guessing this is a SD40-2. If so, is it repainted to BNSF colors or left in its fallen flag colors?

Now there are 3 daily locals that originate out of Longmont and the way they are scheduled there will be a local out of Longmont at least 7 days a week now. At Cheyenne, BNSF has installed a new switch to a new industrial park south of Cheyenne called I think Swarm Ranch or something like that. Railroad still best way to go if got to ship many tons of freight

Date: 12/08/10 19:22 Re: BNSF 1600 Author: atsf2333 I saw BNSF 1600 and 1700 (neat lash-up--no camera)sitting at the Longmont depot this morning. Both sd40-2s.
Date: 12/09/10 03:38 Re: BNSF 1600 Author: Evan_Werkema If Del Grosso has his data correct in his BNSF Railway Company 2010 Locomotive Review, the current BNSF 1600 is ex-BNSF 6719, originally ATSF 5060. This is one of the SD40-2's delivered with a 3-light Oscitrol light package in the nose, and the only one that retained the big, 3-bulb notch in the nose when the Oscitrol was removed and a 2-bulb fixed headlight was installed. The rest of the group (5058-5059, 5061-5070) evidently had the Oscitrol removed first and the notch patched ca.1987, then got a normal-size notch when the fixed headlight was moved to the nose in 1988 or later. Just something to look for among all those boring, look-alike SD40-2's we're all so tired of...;^)
