Western Railroad Discussion > Rio Grande GP60 Survivor at Niles Jct.

One of a class of only three, the UP1901(Built as DRGW3155 in May 1990) leads UP's LRM54 local west on the old WP about to cross the old SP diamonds at Niles Jct. CA at 12:15 today. This Newark-based job is headed out to serve industries in the Union City/Carpenter area.

Of the other two Rio Grande GP60's, the UP1900(I believe still in UP patched black and gold) is presently based in Paragould, AR and the UP1902(in armour yellow for several years) is working in Texas. The number of combined DRGW GP40-2's and GP60's still in the old colors should now be down to just 7 or 8 units. Is the day close when we'll have to head to the likes of the W&LE to see this image in revenue freight service?

Once again, great catch and report. Let's hope it stays in Newark until the next 92 day inspection trip, so I get a chance to chase it, too.
