Western Railroad Discussion > C44-9W vs ES44C4Date: 03/29/11 09:04 C44-9W vs ES44C4 Author: SantaFeRuss With the maiden run of BNSF 6656 West, one of the latest in the ES44C4 deliveries, the question to you "rails" who run these locomotives is: In your experience, what locomotive pulls better, the C-C trucked C44-9W or the A-1-A trucked ES44C4? Both are rated at 4400 horsepower but the DC motored C44-9W has a starting tractive effort at about 142000 lbs while the AC motored ES44C4 has a staring tractive effort at 144000 lbs with two fewer motors. How does this play out on the "high iron" with these long doublestacks and manifest trains?
SantaFeRuss Date: 03/29/11 15:42 Re: C44-9W vs ES44C4 Author: bnsfengineer I'm not happy with either one of these.
For dynamic braking I would go with C44-9W as the ES44C4 just slid on the rails. For pulling power I guess they are probably about even. thanks in advance. Derek Gatt Sydney, australia, NS Date: 04/10/11 17:23 Re: C44-9W vs ES44C4 Author: SanJoaquinEngr SantaFeRuss Wrote:

I would not give a dime for either one as they are junk.
