Trains through Yakima River Canyon
Author: westbnsf

I would like to take some pictures of trains in the Yakima Canyon so can someone help me out with the number of trains through there every day? Also is there an approximate time that they are scheduled to go through so I can save on waiting time? Thanks for any help available!

Marlin, It's pretty sparse these days but a train I almost always seem the catch is the H-PASBRV which arrives E-burg around 11 and leaves around noon with a new crew. I believe (someone else knows for sure) there is an eastbound which is in the dark on it's journey. I went through the canyon today but no saw no trains, because I spent too much time getting lost in Idaho..

Thanks bunkhousemm! Do you know what time it leaves Pasco in the mornings? Too bad there is only one train cause that is some beautiful scenery.

How can you guys possibly forget the Ellensburg Local, Mon, Wed, and Fri....
There seem to me to be more trains that just the 2 you mention. And, remember it varies...
I suggest listening to the Stampede Railroadradio stream, on www.railroadradio.net .
You will hear ALL the traffic, haha.
ebg
PS, there are some other amazing railroadradio streams on there as well, Spokane, and Bozeman Pass, just to name a couple, listen to all the great railroadradio live train audio on www.railroadradio.net

Where does the Ellensburg local go ebg? Which direction and how far? I considered listening to the Stampede Railroadradio stream but I figured that someone here would know.

Hi Marlin, canyon day was wednesday only when I was there in July 2002, of course it may well be different now. I can not remember exactly when it left Yakima, but I would guess around midday, it did not interfere with the westbnd AM manifest.
Return, depart Eburg 16/17.00ish.

Good luck.

Cheers Steve.

The PASBRV gets out of Pasco between 6-730a. Sorry, right now its just the PASBRV and EVEPAS on Stampede. There might be an XGrain during the middle of the night once in a while. On Sundays, only the PASBRV runs. After leaving Ellensburg, there is a stop at Bullfrog, east of Easton to pick up wood chips for 1-2 hrs. Gets to Auburn in the late afternoon 4-6p. EVEPAS is usually out of Auburn between 6-8p.
