Western Railroad Discussion > It was a cold chaseDate: 11/02/11 20:58 It was a cold chase Author: frntinplate Last views of 844. I quit after 20 miles south of Springfield, but those that kept going must have finally got some sun.
1. Departing Pueblo Yard 2. Another view from Union Ave Bridge with Pueblo Union Depot.. 3. Just east of Pueblo Jct. Date: 11/02/11 21:05 Re: It was a cold chase Author: SilvertonRR100 I see you found one of my favorite spots, just East of Joplin Avenue at the entrance to East Cut. Alas, I never got any steam there. Good catch. You sure moved around FAST! Streets must have been wet.
Rob Date: 11/02/11 21:10 Re: It was a cold chase Author: frntinplate 1. About 8 miles east of Pueblo from the overpass to the Pueblo Chemical Depot. The "guards" must have been cold as no one bothered us today. In warmer weather I have been chased off this place as it is near an army depot.... security you know.
2. Going away from "the bridge". 3. IL Road. This is the back way to the TTC...dirt and clay, very slippery when wet. Date: 11/02/11 21:21 Re: It was a cold chase Author: frntinplate 1. Hwy 96 crossing the former MoPac, just east of Boone.
2. NA Jct...the old MoPac joined the ATSF here. 3. Hwy 50 overpass at Manzanola Date: 11/02/11 21:26 Re: It was a cold chase Author: frntinplate 1, 2.... View of 844 from the drivers seat. Somehow it was always trying to creep up and pass me before the next photo op.
3. Arriving Rocky Ford. Yes, this is the Cantelope capital of the US. The bad ones did not come from here, but nearby Holly. Date: 11/02/11 21:32 Re: It was a cold chase Author: frntinplate 1. Arriving at LaJunta the snow flakes started to get big and wet.
2. Departing LaJunta. The snow let up, but the wind and wet rain took over. Had to keep wiping the camera lens every 10 seconds. 3. MP 546, about 10 miles east of LaJunta on the ATSF mainline. Date: 11/02/11 21:36 Re: It was a cold chase Author: frntinplate 1. The last bridge shot, Hwy 50 overpass just west of Las Animas. In about 2 miles from here the train will head down towards Springfield,CO and on to Texas, leaving the orginal ATSF mainline.
2. South of Las Animas. Date: 11/02/11 21:49 Re: Last post from the cold chase Author: frntinplate It was a cold chase, but worth the steam. Cold weather always makes for great steam effects.
1. Arriving Springfield, CO 2. Gotta grease it when you can. 3. End of my chase at Campo, CO. The rest of the group continued on to Oaklahoma and Texas. I'm sure thier posts will be seen soon. Date: 11/02/11 21:53 Re: It was a cold chase Author: Margaret_SP_fan what super, great pictures, frntinplate!
The one at MP 546 would make a great Christmas card. And the last one is wonderful, too - and you even got her with her rods down. NICE work! Thanks SO much for braving the cold and wet and snow. :) Margaret (UP 844 fan, too!)
