Well it can depend on the era you are talking about, but here are some examples of cars used to haul paper including newsprint.

A key common feature among all those cars is that they have plug doors.

Moisture and newsprint are NOT friends.

Back in the fall of 1980, Western Pacific's last revenue run(s) on the Tooele branch was a load of newsprint for the Tooele Transcript. The car was interchanged to the Tooele Valley (thier last revenue load too) at Warner.
