Western Railroad Discussion > New Years Day on the Seligman SubDate: 01/02/12 15:00 New Years Day on the Seligman Sub Author: slug96 The first day of 2012 and why not spend it shoot the Seligman Sub! It was a very busy day of non stop traffic. A great way to start off the new year.
1- A Z LACATG charges out of Darling down the Arizona Divide. 2- A hot Z train knocks down a green light just east of Flagstaff. 3- A 10,000 foot stack slowly moves down divide at Bellemont after the two DPUs died. The crew would stop to try to link back up the two units. ~David Carballido-Jeans San Pedro, CA Date: 01/02/12 15:13 Re: New Years Day on the Seligman Sub Author: rattenne Nice! I did a Route 66 Railway road trip between San Berdoo and Flagstaff back in 2009 with author Elrond Lawrence and we hit each of the locations in your photos. Can't wait for another Arizona road trip!

You know I was traveling to the Fiesta Bowl, and spent New Years Eve at the La Quinta Inn in Gallup NM and from the time I checked in (about 5:30pm) until I left to celebrate New Years at the local casino (about 9:30pm) a train rolled by my window sometimes 13 minutes apart to as much as 40 minutes apart and the count was 4 general merchandise, 6 coal, and 6 intermodel. I also caught the first train of 2012 when the casino shuttle bus dropped me off at the hotel at 12:30 and a general merchandise was rolling east. Then the next morning, this hungover sailor was awakened at 6:30 when he heard a train rolling by but was to hungover to watch it roll by. Now my question is, does BNSF not recognize New Years as a holiday, did they shutdown on the 2nd as per the government mandated holiday or was their so much traffic they had to keep running? From 6:30 am until I checked out at 11:00am an astonishing 15 trains rolled by. So I was just curious why they (BNSF) was running so many trains on a "holiday".

There has been A LOT of track work on the Seligman sub so they must of been trying to send all of the trains they could before these work windows. ~David Carballido-Jeans San Pedro, CA Posted from Android Date: 01/04/12 16:37 Re: New Years Day on the Seligman Sub Author: robertwscott Great shots!!!
