Wee Hour E Units
Author: UPTRAIN

A couple friends and I caught up with the Es in Kansas City early in the morning on the 22nd.

1.) As the special UP Train SCBSP 21 rolled up on the red at Birmingham Jct. they called up the drawbridge operator, who dispatches the track through here, and he gave them a quick clear through the interlocker.

2.) As a KCS Crew gets ready to take their grain train from the CP south, UP Train SCBSP 21 cools its heels waiting on the outbound crew to show up at around 0230 in the morning at Air Line Jct.

3.) Head to head. I'll take the one on the left.

One more...

4.) The puddles are a good indicator that the past 4 days have basically been a constant monsoon in Kansas City.

I'll refrain from making an inappropriate comment here, but no, it wasn't raining at the time. The train rolled into town during a "rare" precipitation free moment.

Great shots! Does anyone know if UP plans to yellow stripe the E units?

No, they are exempt with their historical status.

On the striping issue, I believe there is a clause exempting locomotives used in passenger service only. These would fall under those requirements.

Thanks for the response! Makes sense why Amtrak has red still.

BEAUTY ~vs~ THE BEAST: UP E-9 is the BEAUTY, and the KCS Dash-9 is THE BEAST.
