All renumbered to BNSF 2376-2382 in 1998-2000.
Date: 11/06/12 14:31 Re: Santa Fe GP 38 Author: atsf5704 Santa Fe bought 61 GP38s in 1970 on EMD Order number 7266. They were originally numbered 3500 - 3560. Two, 3523 and 3552, were wrecked at Booth Texas in April 1973 and scrapped. The remaining 59 were rebuilt between March 1983 and August 1985 and renumbered 2300 - 2360 with 2323 and 2352 skipped. 2301 and 2348 were retired prior to the BNSF merger. The 57 that remained on the roster became BNSF 2191 - 2248 with 2225 skipped.
Santa Fe also got 11 GP38-2s in the TP&W merger in January 1984. TP&W 2001 - 2004 were built in May 1977 (EMD Order #766058) and became 3562 - 3565 and were renumbered 2370 - 2373 in 1985. They went to GATX in July 1992 and 2370 - 2372 became KCS 4029 - 4031 while 2373 became San Manuel Arizona 19. TP&W 2005 - 2011 were built in October 1978 (EMD Order #776122) and became Santa Fe 3566 - 3572 during the merger and 2374 - 2380 in 1985. They became BNSF 2376 - 2382. Should read "Santa Fe 3565-3571 .....", the rest is good. Bill Miller Galt, ON Date: 11/06/12 14:57 Re: Santa Fe GP 38 Author: Evan_Werkema 1. Unrebuilt GP38 3514 at Belen, NM in 1983
2. Rebuilt GP38 2320 at Albuquerque, NM in 1991 3. SPSF-painted ex-TP&W GP38-2 2374 at Hereford, TX with a GP38 trailing. Unlike the GP30 and GP35's Santa Fe got from TP&W, the GP38-2's never got dynamic brakes. |
