Midwest 2012-Day 4, cloudy and rainy
Author: oyw

Wednesday October 17, the halfway point of our trip, would be mostly a travel day as a fast moving rainstorm covered the entire state of Missouri. Our goal was to get to the southwestern part of the state while passing through the storm.

1) We started our morning in Mexico, MO before the rains came.

2) A former GM&O/Wabash town now KCS/NS, things were pretty quiet today.

3) We made our way south and stumbled upon the Columbia Terminal #1 switching a few miles north of Columbia under gray skies.

4) On the move, the SW1200 cruises towards Columbia. This outfit is a very friendly operation.

5) A cloudy-day roster of F-unit 1950 in front of the COLT's headquarters. Check a few threads below for excellent coverage of the dinner train by JMorhaus. It IS a small world.

6) After several hours of off and on light rain, we paused at Aurora for this roster of M&NA SD40-2 4080 moments before one of the most intense rainstorms I had ever seen.

7) Less than three hours later we found ourselves on the 3rd ST bridge in Gentry, AR shooting a southbound KCS manifest led by 3950, a former TFM SD70MAC recently painted in Belle colors. After a long day, it was good to finally be on the KCS.

8) The 3950 again, emerging from the trees several miles later just north of Watts, Oklahoma.

9) Last shot before sundown, brand new ACe 4139 glistens in the DPU on the 3950 at Stilwell, OK.

Tomorrows goal, the Missouri and Arkansas Railroad would turn out to be a disappointment. Stay tuned, it's not that bad.

Whilst "oyw" and "DRGW" were hitting the snooze button and slow to wake up, my Dad and I went trackside and were greeted with this sunrise at Mexico.

Mighty nice John. The early bird gets the worm, or so they say.

Hey great shots and yes it is a small world. lol I've always wanted to do the MN&A and KCS in southwestern Missouri. I need to get on that so I can check it off my list.
