? regarding BNSF lift bridge -Burlington ,IA

I was wondering how the old pier that the swing span sat on ,was removed.Must have been a big job.

It was blown out using explosives, the new bridge was even damaged and had to be repaired before the rest of the pier could be blown out and removed. I believe when the new one was damaged it was out of service for a few hours.

Thanks Brian,do you happen to know what the mean depth of the river is at this point.

Corps of Engineers maintains the channel depth to a minimum of 9 ft. It typically never gets much above 9.5 ft unless the Upper Mississippi River is in flood stage.
