4) I rode in the cupola of the caboose which was made in their own shops.

5) The ride back to Ajo. It was extremely dusty. Cost of the round trip! $1.94. The smelter has been dismantled but i believe the tracks are still there.

I think the dust was one of the most memorable things about that ride! The conductor suggested I join him in the cupola for just that reason.

Soo Line operated the last mixed trains in the US from Neenah, WI, to Sault Ste Marie, MI and from Rhinelander, WI, to Gladstone, MI. Passengers rode in a caboose. The service ended in 1986.
