Seeing different stuff on the Lockhart Sub
Author: PALuvR

I ventured down to Lockhart, TX this afternoon. Only caught a couple of trains but they were quite interesting to me. The Lockhart Sub is directional running with SB trains heading to San Antonio joining the Austin Sub at San Marcos. What makes it interesting is that I got to see loads heading south whereas all I see in Austin are the empty cars heading back north.

First up was a SB Manifest with UP 4469 (SD70M), UP 5134 (SD70M) and UP 8184 (SD90/43MAC). It appears to be destined to South Texas where the drilling activity is pretty intense.

1. Heading through "Downtown" Lockhart.
2. UP 8184
3. Couldn't resist a going-away shot

Even though I'm a native Texan, I have little experience with drilling activities. Thus, I'm not too sure exactly what these loads are. But here they are.

4. Fracking sand I believe. Thought I would include some reporting marks for confirmation.
5-6. Couple of loads of pipe, drill stems or what?

Second one was a Z-train with UP 7615 (C45ACCTE), UP 4778 (SD70M) and UP 8746 (SD70ACe). Didn't count axles but seemed to be very long. Also, cool to see 3 units on a stacktrain since most NB through Austin normally have 2.

7. Coming through town
8. Still looking pretty good
