Western Railroad Discussion > SP Riverside Branch OwnershipDate: 11/18/12 17:58 SP Riverside Branch Ownership Author: PHall Went down to Rustin street to check out the new connection. There's been a few changes.
The diamond is gone and a UP style derail has been installed about a hundred feet west of Rustin street complete with a UPRR switch lock. Which begs the question, does UP still own the track into the industrial park or what? And is BNSF switching this lead a one time deal or what? My money says the Cheeseburger Local just got some more things to do now. Date: 11/18/12 20:54 Re: SP Riverside Branch Ownership Author: Alco251 BNSF was doing the switching work last Friday.

I'm thinking that BNSF will do the switching until UP gets some crews qualified on the San Jac branch. Date: 11/18/12 23:06 Re: SP Riverside Branch Ownership Author: MyfordBrowning The plan outlined in the abandonment request to the Surface Transportation Board had the BNSF doing the switching. That could change, but that is what was filed with the STB. I think that the UP still owns the track and R-O-W.
Cliff Date: 11/19/12 09:01 Re: SP Riverside Branch Ownership Author: TomPlatten I was impressed yesterday when I was on Rustin St to see concrete ties! Also--a bonus--three BNSF locomotives coming off the San Jac branch. Curiously--they flagged the crossing at Marborough!

Hoping to establish what days they are going down there (and time period). Date: 11/19/12 15:15 Re: SP Riverside Branch Ownership Author: rehunn Letting the BNSF switch is a whole lot cheaper than sending a train down there to do the same thing,
not to mention the 4 hours wait to get onto the UP/BNSF off the UP. Date: 11/19/12 17:25 Re: SP Riverside Branch Ownership Author: z-trains Switched today by the BNSF. My son had a friendly interaction with the crew. They dropped down with 3 light engines and then pulled hoppers up to Van Buren from there.

Power dropped in with no cars and pulled out empties from the plastics plant. My son talked to the crew and they said that they will be switching the industrial park on Tuesdays and Thursdays just like the old Riverside local. Strangely though, it was Monday today and they were in there.
