Western Railroad Discussion > What Is It?Date: 11/18/12 19:12 What Is It? Author: nwkrailfan I figured I would post this on here, cause quite frankly, I have no clue what in the heck this thing is! While I was up doing what was probably my last walk around of the Marysville, Kansas depot today, this thing pulled into town and was spotted right on the west side of the depot...I know some of you on here are well versed in this kind of stuff and was just wondering if any of ya'll knew what it was!
Thanks in advance for any help! Luke Lohrmeyer nwkrailfan Date: 11/18/12 19:17 Re: What Is It? Author: DKay Looks like some kind of heat exchanger for the petroleum industry. Is there a steel fabricator or refinery operation near where you took the pic.

I hazarded a guess and thought it may be something for dirty dirt removal or cleaning, since it seems pretty sure the Marysville depot is coming down due to environmental concerns. Edited 1 time(s). I want to say this without sound mean and vicious....and it's probably too late now....but why didn't you ask the truck driver what it was? I looks like the truck may have stopped for a few minutes.....those truck drivers are usually friendly. Ron Date: 11/19/12 06:32 Re: What Is It? You're all wrong. It's one of several hundred old launch silos for an ICBM missile being hauled to a destruction site... Part of the "regime's" new de-militarization of the U.S. ZEIG HEIL!!!! Date: 11/19/12 15:19 Re: What Is It? Author: rehunn Hmm, odd, most of the places where that could go have rail sidings available. Maybe it is a
recycled missile silo exhaust housing. Date: 11/19/12 15:27 Re: What Is It? Author: upkpfan Like a couple others above stated, it's some kind of vessel for a refinery I think. They make stuff like that in Emporia and maybe it was going North. Like the guy said, you should have asked the truck driver. Sometimes they only know where it's going and not what it is for. That's how I get a lot of my info. Ask the driver if they are stopping or stopped. upkpfan
