I heard this incident on my scanner today. Actually not the accident conversation, just knew something strange was going on down there with a special designated train. Pulled up and saw the engineer side ladder taped off. No pictures unfortunately as i had somewhere to go quick but the train was a military train, hence the special code. Flat cars with containers followed by army vehicles.

Can anyone summarize the story? I use the computer in a crowded room with the sound off, I need to see visuals or read text.
Does anyone else use TO without sound?

I'll second the motion regarding audio vs. text--I'm really annoyed with AOL for going away from text news and using video clips (with ads that one has to sit through to get the actual news item.)

OMG - the reporter sounds like a high school student and the local r*****k living next to the tracks says his grand-kids aren't safe when they come to visit. It is a state highway crossing with lights and gates. The nearest residence (where I believe this guy lives) is 1,900 feet SW of the intersection and the trailer may have been dragged that far before the train stopped. Based on the video and news accounts, the train must have been traveling westbound, hit the tractor trailer at the Highway 281 crossing and traveled that distance dragging the trailer. The FM road mentioned in the story is shown as Old Kilgore Highway (FM 2087) on Google.

Crossing coordinates: 32.472227°N, 94.767439°W. Go SW 1,900 feet on Old Kilgore Highway and click street view to see the house shown in the video.

(Of course, I could have it backwards with the train hitting tractor trailer at the private road crossing at their house [PR 2317, no lights or gates, just a crossbuck] and then traveling northeast fouling the crossing at highway 281. The story was unclear on which direction the train was moving.)

(edited to remove the pejorative used to describe some locals from that area)

The reporter looked to be only about 22.

And someone needs to tell Joe Redneck Elbert .... who says he's lived there for over twenty years..... that the tracks were there first and if he thinks it's unsafe..... MOVE.

Since you were there, which direction was the train traveling?

And looking at his mansion - can't understand why the relatives would think of staying at a hotel...

Glaring video due to the news station cheapin' out
and sending the reporter out without a cameraman!!
Hand held camera aimed toward the sun, Glare every time!!

Train was traveling northbound/ eastbound entering Longview. Accident happened before the Loop 281 crossing. It stopped at MP 3 of the Palestine sub. FM 2087 crossing had absolutely no police near or truck remains so i assume it had to of been at a smaller street right beside the Railserve plant. Front end didn't look too damaged. Heard trains rolling thru the scene not too long after, maybe 3 hours after.

The reporter has to hold her own camera? Sheesh! What a two-bit operation!

This is East Texas. Not to be confused with Dallas, Austin, or Houston.
At my lakehouse between Arp and Chapel Hill, we still have no cell phone service.
We can't buy beer or wine without going to the next county (but that is fixin' to change).

big markets do this too, she may have been requested to not show the cargo, i have no fault with her.

look where you are reading this, not old press. many media outlets have had their people cut, your sports pages maybe thinner etc.
