I was waiting for yesterday's Starlight to come through Aromas when this local showed up. It was on its way back to Watsonville after switching in Gilroy.

Nice. We don't see too many pictures here taken between Watsonville Jct. and Gilroy.

Thanks.

Aromas is one of my favorite places.

The topography there with the various hills does some crazy things with sound reverberation. You can hear the same train whistle several times -- once when the engineer blows it and then another three or four times when it bounces around the valley. It's pretty cool.

That's a great shot. Brings back a lot of memories working SLO-OAK pool.

If only the UP ran more trains down there.

When the Tehachapi double-tracking project starts, we might see something then...

Everybody keeps saying that, "When Tehachapi closes for _____________ traffic on the Coast will surely soar."
And then they're "surprised" when it doesn't.

It would be very expensive for UP to reroute via the Coast for their traffic and just isn't practical at all for BNSF.

I would look for Donner and FRC to get an increase in traffic if Tehachapi went down.

But that's just my opinion...

Neat. Especially since I used to chase the Gilroy local, and yesterday 11/22 marks 18 years to the day when I left Gilroy to join the Army.

Of course, it used to be a pair of GP9Es and ran from Newhall yard.
