Bill Deaver Tehachapi, CA Date: 11/23/12 10:10 Re: Railroad archives find a place to call home Author: TCnR from the linked article:
"But some 20 years after their rescue, the Southern Pacific Shasta Division archives have a permanent home. The collection of maps, photographs, drawings and documents occupies two rooms full of filing cabinets at the Amtrak building, home to the still-evolving Dunsmuir Museum." The local citizens that have put the Depot Museum together also participate in a number of Town social functions. They clean and maintain the Amtrak waiting room and participate during Dunsmuir Railroad Days, the tables are located just outside the Museum doors. The old wood depot had been located where the present Amtrak parking lot is today. The present buildings had been offices and storage areas of various kinds during the older SP era. The Depot Museum is open in the third Sunday of the month, also during coordinated Town events, but is presently closed for the Winter. They are working on a informational web page. There is an interesting plaque inside with a partial list of members. The Depot was also part of the UPRR Train Town award: http://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/releases/community/2012/train-towns/0806_dunsmuir.shtml http://www.mtshastanews.com/article/20120807/NEWS/120809811 They have been happy to Host the TrainOrders Dunsmuir Cam which is mounted on the outer wall of the present 'Depot' and have been very supportive of the project.
