Western Railroad Discussion > Fort Worth overpass as photograph siteDate: 11/25/12 04:10 Fort Worth overpass as photograph site Author: mustraline I was on Hulen St. yesterday and noticed that the new overpass over Centennial Yard (I hate Ney) has a sidewalk on the east side for pedestrians. It will be a long walk to the top, but it is safe, and the entire yard with an east view is right there. the old overpass had a curb and railing. Very unsafe.

Date: 11/25/12 08:00 Re: Fort Worth overpass as photograph site Author: railstiesballast The "big honk'in fence" is a safety requirement, to block things thrown or falling onto trains or employees below.
As explained to me by a wise UP track engineer, it is now a highway design standard, and for evidence older overpasses without these fences have an accumulation of bottle glass and stuff from the highway above. I find I can usually get a small camera lens through the openings, and some fences have occasional portals or gaps that are too small to throw a beer bottle through, but work for larger cameras.
