Shoreline Intermodal Train in Pinole
Author: Amtrakdavis22

Last Saturday, I decided to head west towards Pinole where I could catch some UP and BNSF action. My first move was to go towards the Pinole shoreline to catch the eastbound California Zephyr and UP KOAMN. After arriving, I had a nice walk along the path while looking for a spot. Once I found my shot, I did not have to wait long for these trains to show up. The rest of the days photos will be in seperate threads later on.

Here Union Pacific 8602 brings the KOAMN along the shoreline of the San Pablo Bay near Pinole, California on the UP Martinez Subdivision.

Using it as we designed it
Freights on the water side
Passenger trains on the land side.
A complete reversal of the old D 251 pattern.
Must be a former CNW dispatcher running the Martinez sub.

Just what we had in mind in 1994/5/6.

Is that design due to passenger loading platforms at Martinez and Richmond otherwise being blocked if freights ran on the land side?
