RR related (effects of Port of LA, Long Beach)

Interesting to see that it was Maersk that diverted a ship to Port of Ensenada. Makes sense: as of yesterday morning there weren't any Maersk container ships anchored off the Port of LA.

With the large number of ships being diverted to Port of Oakland I would expect to see at least a few extra stack trains going east from there on both BNSF and UP (and baretables going in).

I suppose the hot containers (high value) for the LA basin/San Diego/Las Vegas/Arizona markets will have to be trucked down, at a huge expense...

Expect to hear talk of that long proposed Mexican port being built. See these TO posts from 2006:

Also, for those so inclined check out this website. You can find info on both the container ships anchored off of the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles and the ships in port. And it's not just these ports, BTW. It's all public info:

I saw 3 UP stack trains come down the Palmdale Cutoff this morning heading towards Colton.

Were they all or mostly marine containers? Were you able to tell if they came from Mojave or from the BNSF via Silverwood? Normal for Tuesday late in the day, not morning, would be the ZLTLA, and it would be all domestic containers and tofc. The ZBRLC, with some marine, doesn't normally arrive in L.A. on Tuesdays. They could be running some extra IOALBs.

I've been waiting to see this myself, but so far none for BNSF, and baretables are still coming out of Oakland for them and being put into storage out in the desert.

Things can always change tomorrow though!

marinrtraffic.com is easier to use .Maersk has two ships stuck in port and another 90 odd thou tonner heading that way. Lots of baretables on the BNSF yesterday heading east.

I believe the Colnett Port is on the back burner currently!
