a saturday vulcan rock train
Author: tc

I heard a S/B loaded rock train leaving palmdale so off I went to soledad canyon. 1st shot is the train leaving ravenna and under the soledad canyon road bridge. 2nd is the power on the other side of the bridge passing the wildlife way station. 3rd is the DPU set bringing up the rear

1st shot is one of the many spots it just hangs on the rock wall. 2nd shot is the south end of the canyon going under the highway one more time. 3rd is the train approaching CP Lang .

Last one is the DPUs meeting. It was interesting waiting for the S/B because the N/B DPU was not running when I showed up then all of a sudden bells went off for a couple of minutes then the unit fired up kinda cool.

Great pics, Tim.

In photo #6, what are the hoppers that the train is passing - ballast cars in the siding?

Rich

Enjoyed the shots.
Interesting to note, while the rest of the country has shed their leaves, we are right in the middle of our fall colors.

When does the loaded Vulcan Rock train usually Run? Do they always have the same number of cars?

Where does this train originate and where does it terminate? This may have been covered, but a quick search did not answer my question. It appears Vulcan followed Robertson's lead with unit trains into the LA Basin.
