Snow at Easton 12-8-12
Author: BrianA

Photographed a BNSF Xtrain at Easton off of Stampede Pass in the snow this morning and chased it to Thorp, WA.

1-2) BNSF 4914/4667 pass through Cabin Creek, WA at 10:55 AM.
3) At Easton with the snow coming down.

Followed the train into the canyon between Cle Elum and Ellensburg and took a few photos there too. Considering there are still few daylight trains over Stampede, I really enjoyed photographing this one.

Great stuff! Just enough snow to make it pretty, without making travel a nightmare.

Did you sense the rumble of a rotary being tested at Easton or Auburn?
Nice images.

Saw this tool at Easton back in October, waiting for an accumulation of the white stuff.

That is a very different looking spreader, it doesn't even have wings on it. Kind of more like a sled. Who built that one?

Great Northern began that design and it's been nicknamed a 'SnoDozer'. There are a number of slight variations as the fleet was rebuilt, BN built a few if I remember correctly. I understand that BNSF has upgraded them, definitely keeping the fleet in shape.

Note that a Jordan Spreader was adapted from a ballast and slope grading machine. I would guess that GN just had to work their own magic for moving snow. There's an interesting Jordan Spreader site with more info:
