BNSF Holiday train in Flagstaff
Author: alco636

After discovering the BNSF Holiday train downtown last night, I made sure to check it out in the morning light.

#1 Early morning glint shot.

#2 A friend and I received permission to walk along to the rear of the train. Your friendly neighborhood foamer poses with the 7353.

#3 The Transcon is busy as always. A westbound approaches downtown Flagstaff.

#4 I learned the departure time of 3pm, and headed out west to the Railroad Springs area to await the special. This westbound rolled by.

#5 The Holiday special.

Thanks BNSF!

Inside the window frames were many lights. Better views at night. Lots of decorations inside the cars could be seen too.

How do you get to the Railroad Springs location?

Not the most attractive train I have seen! Definitely not up to "Santa Fe" standards.

Tom, the GEs had freshly painted trucks, and were very clean. The passenger cars were all very clean, and from what I could see, first class. We may agree the bi-level cars seem out of place. Plus a pair of SDFP45 may make classier power. However, everything I saw about this train was first class. I commend BNSF for keeping their armed service veterans in mind by operating this special. It's not like the Transcon was quiet either.

Drive west from Flagstaff along Route 66. About a mile west is Railroad Springs Blvd. It's a right turn only. Stay on it to the end. A Flagstaff Urban Trail will begin at the end of it.
