Western Railroad Discussion > Photo Request: ATSF "Kodachrome" SnootsDate: 12/13/12 08:57 Photo Request: ATSF "Kodachrome" Snoots Author: schmo I'm looking for photos, especially top views of the cab, of Santa Fe "SPSF" painted SD40-2 Snoots. Otherwise known as "Kodachrome" paint. Santa Fe engine numbers 5022, 5023 and 5026.
Any photos will be greatly appreciated! --Steve Schmollinger Date: 12/13/12 14:28 Re: Photo Request: ATSF "Kodachrome" Snoots Author: SP8595 1)Well the only shot I could think of (and readily find!) of a Santa Fe SD40-2 "snoot" in SPSF paint somewhat showing a top view of the cab as you requested is this front coupled view of the 5117 taken at Cable crossover in Tehachapi Pass in July of 1986. Since this engine is not one that you have listed, I am not sure if it will help you or not!
2)Still looking fresh, "snoot" 5022 heads East at Blue Cut in March of 1987. Hope these help. If I stumble across any other views of "Kodachrome" snoots, I will be sure to forward them:} Date: 12/13/12 15:06 Re: Photo Request: ATSF "Kodachrome" Snoots Author: dlbowen Date: 12/13/12 15:20 Re: Photo Request: ATSF "Kodachrome" Snoots Author: Evan_Werkema SP8595 Wrote:

Evidently it was repainted back to blue and yellow fairly soon after the merger denial. GP40X 3803 behind the 5022 in your second shot (and Don's shot) was also an early repaint - note that it's already back in blue and yellow 8 months after the merger rejection. Just 5026 leading 5093 and 5182 in red and 5047 and 5084 in yellow and 4 unit remote controlled helpers 83 cars deep (5090, 8077, 5988, 5023) on a 109 car grain train. July 11, 1986 at Cajon Summit, CA.
