3 Stampede trains in daylight, well kinda...
Author: BrianA

It may have been dark and gloomy east of the Cascades today but BNSF did run some eastbound Xtrains over the ex-NP Stampede Pass line making it at least interesting.

1) BNSF 4114 East out of Cle Elum, WA at 0955.
2) BNSF 7815 East west of Bullfrog with light snow falling at 15:13.
3) BNSF 1039 East leaving Easton, WA at 15:45

So how often do they run loaded grain trains over Stampede, or, for that matter, any westbound trains over Stampede?

Thanks in advance,

Rob L.

Under the current operating plan, they don't run westbounds at all. An "Iron Triangle" crew runs Auburn to Pasco. Then Pasco to Vancouver, WA. Then Vancouver to Auburn. I think sometimes a Tacoma or Interbay crew will still run, but their trip ends at Ellensburg.

That's what I thought. I think the original post had a typo in it, "west" instead of "east".

Best regards,

If I recall correctly BNSF 1039 lead the first revenue train over the rebuilt Stampede Sub back in December 1996. I'll be darned if I can find my photos from that day or the Trains Mag issue that used one of the pictures.

No, he listed an Extra East shot West of Bullfrog.
